Living well with gold on the wall

Gold is an accent, not a background: one gilded work is often enough to lift a room in neutral tones, beige, off-white or warm grey. It pairs naturally with brass, dark wood, velvet and zellige, which is why it belongs in so many Moroccan interiors.

On our prints, the gold is reproduced in colour: it evokes gold leaf without being gold leaf. To make it glow, light the work from the side, by a window or a wall lamp, rather than head-on.

For framing, a black frame, classic or floating, sets off the glow of the gold by contrast; unframed, the work stays lighter. Every work can be previewed to scale on your wall before you order.

Frequently asked questions

Is the gold real gold leaf?

No. These are prints: the gold is reproduced by the printing inks, without metal leaf. The effect is still warm and luminous, especially with side lighting.

Which frame for a gilded painting?

On canvas, the black floating frame, where the work seems to float, or the classic black wooden frame. Unframed, the canvas gives a more contemporary look.

Which room suits a gilded painting?

Anywhere with light: a living room, an entryway lit by a wall lamp, a bedroom with light walls. Just avoid a wall that is always backlit, where gold looks dull.
